Inflation drops to lowest level since May 2022 in April

Inflation came in at 7.9% in April, which was down from March’s 9.2%. April’s figure represented the weakest inflation rate since May 2022. The softer rise was largely driven by more moderate rises in prices for food and non-alcoholic beverages, transport and clothing.

The trend pointed up slightly, with annual average inflation coming in at 8.7% in April (March: 8.6%).

Lastly, consumer prices rose 0.50% in April over the previous month, below March’s 0.81% increase. April’s result marked the weakest reading since January.
