Australian coking coal prices averaged USD 277 per metric ton in April, down 21.0% from March’s price and 41.9% lower than in the same month last year. Meanwhile, on 28 April, the fuel traded at USD 258 per metric ton, 23.0% lower than on the same day of the previous month.
Prices fell for the second consecutive month in April. Business conditions in the Chinese steel industry worsened at a steeper pace in April, according to PMI data, amid persistent weakness in the country’s property sector. This knocked demand for coking coal, a key ingredient in steelmaking.
